We Are a Welcoming Congregation!
December 19, 2010
A day of Celebration for Reverend Doctor Doak Mansfield, his wife Peggy and all of the members and friends of the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Tupelo, Mississippi.
In the 7 months following his heart transplant at the Oschner Heart Institute in New Orleans many long hours and days of struggle on the part of Doak and Peggy and many hours of prayers and healing thoughts by their Friends and Kindred Spirits passed through the "instant now" to at last reach this stage of recovery.
His return was marked by a special Christmas topic "Why the Cross and not the Cradle"
A vidio recording of it can be found on YouTube® by clicking HERE.
Peggy & Doak pause as they prepare to leave for Laurel
And a diverse menu provided good food for all, vegan and omnivore alike
The Members, Friends and Guests of the Congregation turned out in significant numbers to welcome Doak and Peggy back
The Book Discussion Group
The Book Discussion Group was organized by the Social Committee Leader, Tish Kennedy as a response to a poll taken at the Annual Meeting of the Congregation with the first gathering being held in December 2010. The group has its own page with a more complete description and a projection of the next meeting and selected book for discussion. Nevertheless some candid camera photos of the January meeting will show the serious nature of the gatherings.
These photos are from the gathering of January 7, 2011 (if alibies are needed all images are time/date registered)
Butch and Karen appear to be discussing some multi-issue aspect of "The Help"
Harry entertains Betty with a clever skit about life in Jackson in the 1950s?
With Bob Reinhaus's knees on the left, Kevin and Tish and Linda discuss the merits of the pizza and side dishes which nourished the scholars during the snack break. After the pizza came desserts!

~ Autism & Paul McAuliffe
Paul McAuliffe: flute maker, flute player, autistic.
People on the autism spectrum perceive things differently. When Paul had to buy a cane, he saw in it the potential flute. He played it! Next time he needs a cane he says he's not looking at sturdiness or durability, he's looking at tone.
Paul wove his life with autism story around demonstrations of the music he creates with his flutes, all of which he made himself or were gifts from native american designers. The result was truly the sounds of a seeking soul.
Paul is from the UU Fellowship of Bay County in Panama City, Florida.
